Noble and Nolan in midfield.

At the risk of going over the quota for football threads, I thought that this was a topic worth talking about.
I can't see how a midfield composing these two can ever work. It lacks pace, is short on creativity and only Noble offers anything defensively.
Nolan is ballast without the goals. Noble can offer something with good players around him, but looks poor next to Nolan.
I hope we don't see them together again.

Totally agree. There's only one of them I'd like to see in the side and it wasn't the one wearing the armband today.

We were down to our bare bones today (to quote one of our previous managers) so not too many options
I thought Nolan was actually better than Noble today to be honest, but don't expect him to be much other than useful sub these days
Put together I agree there's a worrying lack of pace
The sooner our injured recover the better!

Why couldn't we of had Zarate for Nolan? I suppose Allardyce trusts Nolan and even has too much respect for what he has done for him over the years to leave him out. However if we are to push on we can't carry people, Zarate has done more this season to warrant a place than Nolan. And until he's banging on the door scoring for the reserves and in sub appearances IMO he has lost his place. There's no room for sentiment in football.

Good servant for the club and he definitely HAS been worth the money and wages that we paid for him - he was influential in our promotion in 11/12 - but we've moved-on now and he doesn't fit-in to our team...
The Championship is his level now...

They were our midfield duo in the championship 3/4 yrs ago.
And we struggled then.
The fact the pair of em still feature is a pisstake really.
Sorry, west ham boy and all that. Mark noble is bang average and am indifferent to his inclusion now. Just a given.

I agree with the OP. But both of them are decent Premiership players - it's up to the manager to make sure the mix is right in there. And his hand was more than a little forced today.
It was the right time for him to go and all that, but we do miss Diame a little bit in that regard.

Nolan in the team today was bad enough but Cole!! Would rather Vaz te than cant control if you play Carroll surely Jarvis should have started,Northern monkey fat Sam has been desperate to play his bum boy for weeks,he gives us nothing.nolan and noble together doesn't work,early season form will go right out of the window now nolan is back.

Noble was our best player first half....although that wasn't hard
Nolan on the other hand was a passenger for 90mins

If you combine those two with Carroll and cole up front and then compare that to having noble with downing, Sakho and Valencia, the sheer difference in pace between the two sets if players us staggering. Everton must have been laughing when they saw who we had missing today
